what’s moped?
“Moped” is already an English word.
It refers to a low-powered motorized bicycle that typically has both:
-
Pedals (like a bicycle) – you can pedal it
-
A small engine (usually 50cc or less)
In modern usage, the term is often loosely used to describe small scooters (like a Vespa) even if they don’t have pedals, though technically those are called “scooters.”
Quick difference:
-
Moped → has pedals + small engine
-
Scooter → step-through frame, no pedals, engine usually 50cc–250cc
